As of September 20th, 2009, we have collected $11,500.
We have good hope to reach $12,000 before
we arrive in Cape Town.
As
now and until we know our final donation amount at the beginning
of November, we are planning to invest our donations such
as:
-
Architect: $400
- Construction (new house with 1 bathroom,
2 bedrooms): $8,000
- Supplies: $1,000
- Electricity set up: $350
- Furniture: $1,000
- Operations (expenses related to the management
of the project such as phone, tranportation, marketing,
taxes, bank transfers, etc; recruitment of a local project
manager - Xolani, you rock!!): $1,200
Eight
of us are finally going: Beth, Shannon, Laurie, Nick, Roni,
Tracy, Barbara and Vanessa. Due to the economic crisis,
we have unfortunately lost some of our volunteers and their
committment in the process. But their support and love are
still there! Our donation goal was not reached either. Finally,
each of the participating volunteers had to personally pay
in full the cost of his/her travel ((airfare, local transportation
Cape Town/Nyanga, meals, hostel).
But
all of those changes this did not stop us and we kept on
focusing on our mission: offer a happier place to live in
for the kids. And we did it!
We will
all arrive in Cape Town on November 8th. We are all very
excited as every day the dream is becoming a reality...
The
construction workers have removed the shacks and started
digging to build the foundation two weeks ago. The new building
is scheduled to be delivered mid-October.

THANK
YOU to all who have supported us and above
all, believed in us and our cause!
