Our international internship program in Spain provides currently-enrolled university students and recent graduates the chance to gain valuable professional experience in a country that displays its European modernity against the backdrop of a rich history and varied culture. Founded in 1180, historic San Sebastián is located on the Atlantic Coast of Spain’s Basque Country. Situated on the Bay of Biscay, the city offers examples of architecture from the last thousand years and a contrasting landscape of beaches and mountains. Just across the Pyrenees, only a few miles away, is the South of France! This program combines Spanish language learning with practical work experience.
AIDE’s international internship programs offer participants the opportunity to gain experience and develop employability skills in a global context. Furthermore, participants may be eligible to receive academic credit for their international internship with AIDE. AIDE believes that this access to experiential learning develops intercultural competence, as well as tolerance and understanding of circumstances and societies that are different from our own. Our aim is to build a worldwide community of global citizens who will be part of an ongoing intercultural conversation. Welcome aboard, and we hope that you enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Participants are placed in an internship that is customized according to their field of study, professional experience, and Spanish language skills.

Language Classes
Prior to starting your internship, you will take a minimum of 4 weeks of Spanish classes. You will be placed in a small group in lessons that match your language ability. The school is located in the heart of San Sebastián, just meters from Zurriola Beach and a 15-minute walk from the Parte Vieja (Old Quarter). The modern facilities include well-equipped classrooms and a computer room where students can access the Internet free of charge. Wi-Fi connection is also available throughout the school. In the afternoon, students can use the reading room or borrow books and DVDs from the library.
Accommodations
You have the choice between a host family or a shared apartment:
Host family
This option is perfect way to feel at homein Spain! You will have your own room and eat breakfast and dinner with your host family. Our families are located in different areas of San Sebastián and you will usually not need more than 15 minutes by bus or bike to reach the city center or the school.
Shared apartment
You will live in an apartment with one or two Spanish people who are studying or working. You will have your own bedroom and common use of the kitchen, bathroom and living room. This option allows you to be in contact with Spanish people, whilst at the same time maintaining a certain level of independence. Bed sheets will be provided. Each apartment is carefully selected and regularly visited by our local coordinators. Apartments are located a 20-30 minute walk or 10-20 minute bus ride from the school.
Cultural
excursions
We want our participants to experience Spain's cultural diversity and the Basque Country, where San Sebastián is located. We arrange many different activities for our participants - some during the week and others on the weekend. They include but are not limited to: an introductory tour of San Sebastián; excursions to fishing villages such as Zumaia, Pasajes de San Juan or Hondarribia; cooking classes; beach volleyball at Zurriola Beach; introduction to the Basque language and culture; tapas tasting tours in San Sebastián’s Parte Vieja; an excursion to Bilbao with a guided tour of the Guggenheim Museum; trekking along the coast with scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean; and a one-day surf course.
Language Courses
You will begin your program with a 4-week of intensive Spanish course (four 45-minute lessons per week), classes are usually taught in the mornings. The school uses a range of dynamic teaching methods, including practical exercises, group work, and role play to improve your Spanish communication skills. The aim of the highly trained and motivated teachers is to provide varied and interesting lessons, while ensuring the needs of individual students are met. Once registered, we will send you a written language test. You will then complete an oral assessment on the first day of the course, which, according to your language ability, will determine your placement in one of six course levels. All classes are held in small groups with a maximum of 8 students per level. During the last week of the course, when your Spanish level meets the requirements for placement in a professional internship, our dedicated local coordinator will accompany you on an interview with the host company.
Internship

- Tourism
